A Message for PUMAs...From HRC?

In a recent controversy started by one of Senator Clinton "Hillraisers" (those who raised $100,000 or more for HRC's campaign) in which Ricki Lieberman stated that she was declining to help bundle donations for the Democratic nominee, Barack Obama, Senator Clinton let it be known what she thinks of such action or non-action.

Lieberman watches over her program entitled "Electability Watch", with the hope of convincing superdelegates to change their minds and to vote Senator Clinton as the Democratic nominee.  Even though Ms. Lieberman insists that her only desire is to "see a Democratic president in the White House" next year, her and her program send out daily email blasts that are critical of Senator Obama and she constantly refers to Obama as "aka Bush 3".

Examples "including comments comparing Obama's planned nomination speech to Nazi-era rallies in Germany."

I have heard from many Survivors and their children about the symbolism and implications of use of rules to undermine our core democratic values. Ellen Mendel wrote that "I was born under Hitler in Germany, and reading about the plans for the Obama throng in the stadium in Denver and the implications which have been spelled out, gives me the chills...the DNC will deliver the country to Obama on a platter. I wonder when it will hit them what pawns they have been in this Faustian tragedy.

Another, "As someone who escaped from France during WW ll, I hope that I'm not being over dramatic when I'm more than uneasy with stuff like Obama's possible Denver stadium theatrics and the calibrated negotiations going on about the convention."

Many emails blast Obama and his past associations and attempt to tie him to Louis Farrahkan, William Ayers and Tony Rezko.

Other "theories" she has written about include:

In a recent edition, she advanced a theory that the reason Obama's fundraising operation has started to show some signs of wear is because all those small donors during the primary were, in truth, closet McCain supporters who, instead of donating to his foundering campaign, were trying to destroy the most formidable Democratic candidate (that being Clinton). "And now they do not have to contribute anymore," Lieberman wrote. "Some may have even gone back to funding McCain whose fundraising has gotten better and better."

and

During the recent Jesse Jackson controversy -- in which the civil rights leader was caught expressing his desire to "cut [Obama's] nuts off" in a hot-mic moment before a television appearance -- Lieberman's email suggested in back to back items that the entire incident was engineered by Jackson and Obama as a cynical bit of propaganda and that the incident was a true reflection of a growing displeasure among key black leaders with his candidacy.

So much for her statement that her only desire is to "see a Democratic president in the White House next year."

What does Hillary Clinton think about these types of people and their causes?

A spokesperson for Sen. Clinton implicitly distanced the candidate from Lieberman's effort, telling the Huffington Post: "Senator Clinton fully supports Senator Obama. She continues to urge all of her supporters to get behind him. ... She continues to do everything she can to rally folks behind him. We don't support any effort that doesn't."

A remarkable woman.

Re: We told you so... (2.00 / 8)

So ATDleft,  how do we work with this.

We know nothing Hillary will say will stop Larry Johnson or Will Bowers, or whoever claims to be PUMA leader for the day........ BUT

What we can do is somehow invalidate these people as nothing but McCain shills in that their focus on Hillary is mute.

I am tired of them embaressing Hillary and us.

IF they want to vote for McCain, let em do it, let them change party registrations, because the game they play is hard to beat.

Thats why I am calling for everyone to outright reject these people.

Our agenda as Democrats is clear.
McCains agenda as a Neo-con Bush the 3rd is also clear.

Choose sides, there is no in between.

And if your not going to vote, then as an American I say the bipartisan sentiment:

I dont know about you folks but I was raised to believe that if you don't vote you have no right to complain.

To quote a village idiot, "If they're not with us, they're against us." As far as I'm concerned they can just go away, not vote, vote for McCain, vote for Nader, do whatever their heart desires. I know I am painting with a broad brush, but at this point I don't care anymore; I'm done with them. Period. I supported Hillary, heart and soul. But I am a Democrat first and foremost and Obama is our nominee. Duh!

Obama backers are basically right wingers.  They use their tactics, share their strategies and talking points, and generally agree on most things, like warrantless wiretapping.

That's why most Obama backers are 'former republicans'.  They are right wingers who have infiltrated our party in order to bring down the Clintons, because the Clintons are winners and the right wingers FEAR THE CLINTONS.

Obama backer revives Clinton sex scandals

Another sign of the anger in Obamaland at the Clinton campaign: an email from a member of Obama's LGBT leadership council, Maxim Thorne, to a couple of listservs:

"We cannot tolerate her lies and stolen election," Thorne wrote of Clinton, revisiting familiar themes:

At 3am, Hillary said she and Bill were in bed and she knows of all the calls a President gets at different times of the day and night. Really? So much involvement - so much togetherness. Where was she when Monica was having sex with Bill? 35 years of experience? When he was intimidating Katherine Wiley and Paula Jones? Where was the judgment on the cattle futures and white water. Do we forget Mark and Denise Rich? This was an impeached President who lost his license to practice law. He committed perjury. They settled with Paula Jones for the full amount of her lawsuit. I haven't forgotten and none of us should.

"These comments have no place in this campaign," said Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor, who couldn't immediately say whether Thorne would be leaving his position with the campaign.

UPDATE: Vietor said Thorne is resigning from the leadership council, and that the campaign has accepted his resignation.

Did Clinton Darken Obama's Skin?
March 5, 2008
Updated: March 6, 2008
Some Obama backers cry "racism." We find the accusation to be unsubstantiated.

Summary
Obama supporters on the Internet are agitated over the apparent darkening of Obama's image in a Clinton attack ad.

Our video team took a look. Our conclusions:

The Obama frames from the ad do appear darker than other video of Obama from the same event.

However, the YouTube copy of the ad, on which the bloggers base their conclusions, is darker overall than other copies of the ad.  We obtained a digital recording of the ad as it actually appeared on a Texas TV station, and it is lighter.

Furthermore, our analysis of the Obama frames, using Photoshop, shows a fairly uniform darkening of the entire image including the backdrop. It is not just Obama's skin color that's affected.

Also, nearly all the images in the ad are dark, including those of Hillary Clinton. And dark images are a common technique used in attack ads.

Others will speculate about the Clinton campaign's intentions and motives, as they already have. But without further evidence to the contrary, we see no reason to conclude that this is anything more than a standard attempt to make an attack ad appear sinister, rather than a special effort to exploit racial bias as some Obama supporters are saying.

No. It's not a "must" relationship. (2.00 / 3)

Draw the Venn diagram differently.  Some PUMAs are very likely racist, but not all.

There are people on this very forum, in this very diary, in fact, that posted repeatedly last year that Obama shouldn't ever be the nominee because there were so many people out there that would never vote for a black man.  It sounded racist to me at the time, but hey, that may have been premature.  Yet when I see those same people, today, stretching for any excuse to bash Obama, now, after the nomination is decided, well, I can't help but think there is racism involved.

I'm surprised, actually.  I thought he was right, and that Obama would be a loser because of his race, although I really hated having somebody point that out.  It turns out, though, that I was wrong.  I underestimated the people of our country.  Obama is black, and he is winning, handily.

Re: A Message for PUMAs...From HRC? (2.00 / 11)

I can't speak for all of them, but their movement is riddled with racists, the easiest to point out is Harriet Christian which by all accounts I think Will Bower wants to make babies with her (just read his defense article he wrote on HuffPo(I think they deleted it though, obviously Bower embaressed them).

Maybe Im a bit too liberal, but I was raised not to reason with or sympathize with racists and religious bigots.

I also, in my own perspective watched the Republican party build their brand on a "Greater White America" my whole life.
Yes, I believe racism is a core value in the GOP, I dont believe, I know it.

So point #2, not only does PUMA embrace it's racist members but it embraces a political party and social ideology which has built itself on the institutionalized racism of our country.

Just as I don't like to generalize all Democrats because they have different views on certain issues, the same holds true here as well.

IMO, a majority of PUMAs are lost causes and have lost their sense of reasoning.  For them the blinders are permanently attached.  There are, however, a few PUMAs who I believe will still keep an open mind and will follow their candidate's wishes come November.

She also had no problem using intimidation to control her diaries (if any single member had Jerome's ear and sword it was her).

Anyways lets drop the comparisons and let Sricki stand on her own celebrity.

I distinctly said the "sane" version of alegre. As brit pointed out, I meant it as the lead diarist on this site. Your stuff gets rec'd and shoots to the top and accomodates hundreds of comments.

That's where the comparison begins and stops.

Also, you have your detractors, sockpuppets who jack your handle and haters all around.

You are right, sricki will never be 1/2 the writer alegre is.

But, that's only because I don't see the quality of sricki's writing diminishing to such a degree that she would reach that low level.

As it is, alegre would be lucky to be half the writer sricki is. Alegre is a perfect example of quantity NOT translating to quality.

Re: A Message for PUMAs...From HRC? (2.00 / 6)

As usual, I agree with Sricki....

This was not about Hillary so much as it was about the pursuit of the fictitious 15 minutes of fame.  Every plug for this group is seen as some kind of victory.  That the plugs are coming from people and especially a network with an explicit agenda to elect a GOP President is inconsequential to them.

I have asked repeatedly for deliverance from the "me" generation...  This election is not about one person or one fringe group.  It is about the future of the country.

I wish they would get that.

I would have liked (2.00 / 10)

a stronger statement from Senator Clinton condemning the PUMAs and calling for party unity.  But perhaps that's a bit too much to ask; glad to see she was unequivocal.

And there's no comparison between sricki and alegre.  Sricki defends her viewpoints with intellectual honesty and sharp vigor.  Alegre never answered questions and refused to engage in any good faith discussions at all.  The "strike" was case in point: walking away in a huff because her arguments were disputed.  Much like the movement she now supports.

(Also, I have secret crushes on both sricki and canadian gal.  Don't tell nobody.)

Re: A Message for PUMAs...From HRC? (2.00 / 7)

Shaun, this is not another PUMA diary.

This is important,  alot of us including me who didn't vote for Hillary had one last gripe...

Why she hadn't denounced these movements to cause our party to fail this fall.
It bewildered me greatly and WAS a news story the last couple days.

Although PUMA could care less what Hillary does, this does take alot of steam away from them.

Hopefully the next time they salivate on Cavuto's desk Cavuto will call them out on this rejection.

I can't wait to see Bower squirm and Harriet complain about losing her regularity over this devestating news.

Re: A Message for PUMAs...From HRC? (2.00 / 2)

Well, you're certainly entitled to your own opinion but from where I sit Hillary's activities since the end of the primary have been an admirable balance of support for the nominee and service to her supporters and constituents all within an appropriately low-profile presence in the media.  Perhaps she understands that the PUMA movement, which is no doubt an embarrassment to her current ambitions, would wither if starved of the notoriety they seek.  Let's face it, they ain't exactly a 'brain trust' of progressive or any other values.  Leave it to Hannity and O'Reilly to pimp their platform, such as it is, and it will soon become clear whose narratives they are promoting.  They are seeking attention more than anything and the less they get in the progressive blogosphere the better, I reckon, and they seem determined to be unreconcilable.

Well, I agree with Shaun, we've had enough PUMA diaries around here to last a lifetime.
As JenK said above, it's all about the attention they're getting. The more they get, the more effect they think they're having.
Let's have a moratorium on the "We hate PUMA" diaries, shall we?
(That being said, I did rec the diary, because I always like hearing what Hillary's up to!)

Re: A Message for PUMAs...From HRC? (2.00 / 1)

I agree with you and Shaun's sentiment 110% but now this is Top of the Page on Huffington's Politics section.

What does that mean?

Its going to hit the media tonite, GUARANTEED on Dan Abrams show.

Why?

Well Dan was famous for his incessant "Hillary as VP" lines after the primaries, which I have no problem with but this news will give him fuel to run that out there again.

Second, Roy Seacroft(sp) who is the editor of HuffPo is a regular guest on there.  He and/or his team were responsible about making this news top page.

Third, the political talk shows from Air America to MSNBC use Huff as a news source.

Whereas this article might not get on CNN.com's main page, it will after it generates hype on Huffington.

Hillary has to say that. Hillary should say that. I am glad Hillary is saying that.

But any one with a brain would realize half the democratic party didn't support Obama. Some will come over- too many will not.

He is not collecting any more Koolaid drinkers so he has peaked in his I'm the new kool guy campaign- not a good thing this far out.

He is alienating even his super supporters with his flip flops and the questions are starting to surface.

I love Koolaid, but I know well enough that Democrats have a genetic deficiency at growing a spine.

But hey, our party is still growing and maturing, whereas the republicans with their steel spines are fading away.

We are possibly looking at a future of 8 years of a Democratic Whitehouse, Congress, and god willing Supreme Court.
