John McCain is stuck with "Coldwar mentality" !

Sen. Obama has clearly demonstrated that he would follow a measured approach towards foreign policy. I offer congrats to him and his foreign policy team. Susan Rice is correct McCain seems to have no hesitation to jump into a new war but I honestly believe he thinks we are still at war with Russia. I think in his mind it is still USSR.

It is about time our campaign exposes the war mongering attitude of Sen. McCain. I think he believes in "talking harshly" and carry "no stick". Honestly his reaction is really frightening. He actually reminds me of Barry Goldwater.

Here is a nugget that exposes McCain's clear lack of understanding:

At the height of the Cold War, the Soviet Union had some 45,000 nuclear warheads. At the moment, Iran has none. But when Barack Obama said the obvious--that Iran does not pose the sort of threat the Soviet Union did--John McCain reacted as though his rival had offered to trade Fort Knox for a sack of magic beans.

"Such a statement betrays the depth of Sen. Obama's inexperience and reckless judgment," exclaimed McCain. "These are very serious deficiencies for an American president to possess."

But if Iran is the Soviet Union, I'm Shaquille O'Neal. There is nothing reckless in soberly distinguishing large threats from small ones, and there is something foolhardy in grossly exaggerating the strength of your enemies.

John McCain is stuck (2.00 / 1)

Here's another one his whoppers:

Speaking to reporters about the situation in Georgia, Sen. John McCain denounced the aggressive posture of Russia by claiming that:"in the 21st century nations don't invade other nations."

Classic!

Re: John McCain is stuck (2.00 / 2)

Clearly, you are holding the straight talkin' maverick to some abitrary standard of logic and intelligence, way different then the MSM is.

He fires from hip, he's not polished and nuanced like...that other guy!

He calls em as he see em...

But, unfortuanately, these days, his eyes are getting a little weak, so he's calling them as Joementum sees em more and more.

It's a gift from the gods! (2.00 / 1)

McCain's camp seems to have no idea. This new narrative doesn't make them appear strong, it makes them appear reckless. He's gone from "we must stand tall in the war on terror" to "we must fight injustice around the world, even if it means fighting wars against countries that pose a serious and immediate threat".

Up until a week ago, it was going to be very difficult to attack McCain on foreign policy, because he was positioning himself as rational and Obama as a bit too soft. But now? I said it earlier in the week. Obama is the one that can run the scare tactics videos. Obama is the one that has a legitimate claim to say the other is a danger to our security. Obama is the one who can say that his policies are designed to put America first.

They have NO IDEA what they are doing. They are trying to turn the country neoconservative and pretend that the problem with Bush was that he was unwilling to risk a nuclear war.

Don't get me wrong, Russia is a serious threat, but I have long been certain that the focus on the middle east has ignored two sleeping giants that we must keep on our side. We cannot force Russia into submission without any weight behind it. We have a large number of foreign conflicts that we consider a priority and must devote attention and resources to. They really only have one.

Re: John McCain is stuck with "Coldwar me (2.00 / 1)

Well, Putin is stuck in a cold war mentality, so we can't just dismiss the whole idea...

But, McCain is running around in glee!!! I'm the foreign policy president!!! yeah!!

Except the foreign policy that you endorse has led to the US losing BIG here... I don't think there has ever been a time in my lifetime where the US has looked so weak...

That is NOT a political winner, John... you should be running away from Bush, not embracing him.  Bush's foreign policy got us into this mess, and it's not so hard to paint the lines of this mess towards yourself!

I think it's pretty clear (2.00 / 3)

that a McCain Presidency comes with a draft. I can't see how else he'd maintain the multiple fronts he clearly expects to fight on.

You have to wonder...his father and grandfather were Admirals. Is a Presidency the fulfillment of McCain's military ambitions?

Re: I think it's pretty clear (2.00 / 1)

The difference between an Obama presidency and a McCain presidency: Both would require public service for young Americans, but only Obama would allow them to do something other than serving in the Army.

Well, Army, Navy, Air Force, etc. If your parents have money, then the National Guard or Coast Guard.

Neef, I think that is a very astute observation.

Re: John McCain is stuck (none / 0)

The main foreign policy deficiency in McCain is that he would do Israel's bidding and attack Iran. Then McCain's world and America would come tumbling down, but I don't think he sees it that way. Buy that bicycle should Obama fail.
