Ugh! McCain Up 5 in Ohio

According to Rasmussen, it's 48 McCain, 43 Obama.

This result means that the electoral college is the closest it's ever been. 270 Obama - 268 McCain. And I fully expect McCain to pick off New Hampshire in the end as well, which would give McCain the win.

This cannot be happening.

WHY IS THIS NEWS? (none / 0)

"McCain attracts 45% of the vote in Ohio while Obama earns 41%. That's little changed from a month ago when McCain led 46% to 40%."

Re: WHY IS THIS NEWS? (none / 0)

Uh, because in the intervening month several other polls had Obama in the lead. Hence the fact that it's still blue on the MyDD Electoral College map.

Sorry - I take back my last comment. I thought u were referring to the new Reuters poll. Not surprised McCain is leading in Ohio. This is not an Obama state.

Re: Ugh! McCain Up 5 in Ohio (none / 0)

McCain wins NH!? I live in NH and I really don't think so. The southern tier, where most of the population lives, is not the same demo as it was back in '04.

The state is a strong democratic leaner this yeas IMO.

The poll is not that bad (none / 0)

Obama was down ten with leaners a month ago and now he's down five.  If you average out all the recent Ohio polls, the state is pretty much a toss-up.

I'm still stunned that this election now appears to be a toss-up; not too many people on this blog predicted that this election would be as close as the previous two elections at this time.

Uh, Jerome did. I think it's only the newbies who pile on at every Jerome post who thought Obama could walk away with this. Welcome to American politics, guys.

Hence, the phrase "not too many" (none / 0)

Jerome is probably the best front-pager ont his blog.  His call of the offshore drilling flip was pretty darn good as I am one of the 150 bloggers here who owe the guy a dollar.  Armstrong certainly knows what he's talking about.

A stopped clock is right twice a day (none / 0)

The polls have cycled, and taking a snapshot in the trough to prove a point is somewhat intellectually dishonest.

It won't be as close as 2000 and 2004. It may also not be as wide open as 1992, and a Reganesque landslide is almost impossible.

Re: Ugh! McCain Up 5 in Ohio (none / 0)

Obama is not going to win.  I can't believe you guys are just now realizing that.  Hillary Clinton is our only shot and hopefully the Delegates will come to their senses at the convention.  Hillary can win Ohio, Florida, Arkansas, West Virginia, and Kentucky.  She is the most experienced and prepared candidate.  Still can't believe the super delegates gave it to Obama.....oh well

Re: Ugh! McCain Up 5 in Ohio (none / 0)

No, she can't. Not with a huge portion of the electorate protesting the decision to take it away from the rightful nominee. Live in reality.

Re: Ugh! McCain Up 5 in Ohio (none / 0)

A huge portion of the Democratic party is already pissed off and not voting for Obama.  Hillary will win over Obama's voters..they are the very far left of the party.  She can unite the Democratic Party.  Something Obama has been unable or unwilling to do.

Re: Ugh! McCain Up 5 in Ohio (none / 0)

Don't insult everyone's intelligence.  Such a move, which will never happen, would cause an equal or greater backlash and be the single story for the next two months.  Also, the nominee would start with $0 dollars in the bank account and no staff.  Please, this is nothing more than a fantasy.

Re: Ugh! McCain Up 5 in Ohio (none / 0)

Huge? Define huge. He's carrying Democrats by 81% at this moment in time. This isn't to far off the average for this point in in the summer and before the convention.

Re: Ugh! McCain Up 5 in Ohio (none / 0)

Obama's voters are also African-Americans.  Do you really think the Democratic Party would ever get another African-American vote if Hillary Clinton swooped in and stole the nomination from the first African-American to be the rightful nominee of a major political party?

If Hillary Clinton tried to steal the nomination - and I thank my lucky stars that she's a hell of a lot smarter than you and thus is not going to try - she would not unite the party... she would shatter it.

Re: Ugh! McCain Up 5 in Ohio (none / 0)

It's not that Obama isn't uniting the party, it's that the bitter deadenders refuse to grow up. It just goes to show you that they care more about themselves then they do about our country. But what can you expect from the me, me, me generation.

Well, our buddy nrafter (none / 0)

has been pushing a theory that Obama would be the one who concedes to HRC at the end of his Invesco Field speech and then, they'd run as a team.  He heard from an "insider."

The argument by HRC's most ardent supporters has always been that Obama's constituency in the party will never vote for McCain and has always voted for dems whereas twenty percent of HRC's constituency (it is thirty percent in the case of Obama according to Rasmussen), conservative dems, vote for the pubs if they don't like the dem.

Yeah, and a month ago he was supposedly down 10, according to Rasmussen.  Take that however you will.

Last month this same poll had McCain up 10. Now it has him up 5. This is movement for Obama.

I've heard all sorts of arguments saying she has ties to Ohio...Even though she won't be able to bring her own state to Obama, but hey! her Ohio ties will turn this around, eh?

Right....
